This is a regular monitoring process to correct for any wavelength drift due to varying environmental factors such as temperature and pressure. It involves monitoring the positions of one or more argon wavelengths in the plasma during sample uptake. Data collected suggests that monitoring one argon line is adequate to correct any wavelength drift to better than ±0.1 pixel. The pixel offset derived from monitoring is used to offset the wavelengths used when displaying and analyzing spectra.
